Paired microbiome and metabolome profiles of the same samples: which microbes most plausibly explain the metabolites? Taxa are summed to genera and correlated with every metabolite; each pair is then weighed against the producer and consumer links of the microbe-metabolite links database (curated, multi-omic and metabolic-model evidence). Genera whose correlations agree with that evidence are ranked as candidate microbes.

The format of MicrobiomeAnalyst MMP. Metabolite table: compounds in rows named by common name, samples in columns (first column #NAME). Taxa table: counts or relative abundances of ASVs, OTUs or taxa in rows, samples in columns. Metadata: sample names in the first column (#NAME), groups in the second. Taxonomy (optional): the features of the taxa table in the first column and a Genus column, optionally Species (full name or epithet) and Strain columns (g__, s__ prefixes are removed); without it, feature names are read as taxonomy strings (k__Bacteria;...;g__Bacteroides;s__Bacteroides_fragilis) or as genus, species or strain names (strain: e.g. Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343, or an NCBI TaxID). The level of the analysis is chosen on the next page. Samples are matched by name; at least 6 are needed. Up to 50 MB each.
